Giclée Printing

Giclée or Pigment printing is a technique of printing and recreating Fine Art to an archival museum quality.

This can be original paintings, pre-scanned files, digital artwork or photographic. This is the best method for artists, photographers, illustrators and creatives looking to create edition prints and copies of their original work on paper or canvas.
Giclée printing offers the highest archival (fade resistant) printing with the greatest colour rendition. The key differences between Giclee printing and commercial printing or Lithographic printing are the use of pigment inks versus latex or wax based inks and wider ink colour sets (allowing colour spaces such as Adobe RGB rather than CMYK). Giclée printing also allows us to use higher quality archival Fine Art and Photographic papers.
The quality of the final print is dependent on the quality of many inputs including materials, technology and craftsmanship. We use both Epson and Canon’s newest professional pigment ink Giclée printers and offer a range of beautiful archival art papers to produce exceptional prints to “Artsure” approved standards.

We aspire to offer the highest quality of prints available and we would be delighted to take care of your artwork and printing requirements. We do not offer an automated print on demand service preferring to discuss and check all work and provide any assistance and expertise that is required.

Assuming we have a good quality digital file, the next step is to print the image. We can print onto many different papers and canvases all of which have excellent archival properties and differ in weight, white tone and texture. We have shown a selection below and can provide others on request. Paper choice is a little subjective but we are also happy to offer any advice requested.

Smooth Fine Art Paper (300gsm)

An off white (CIE 91.5), very slight textured soft surface matte paper. Acid free and pH neutral (pH 8.1), 100% cotton mould made archival paper. A lovely high quality Fine Art paper with a high d-max for great tonal range and colour gamut suitable for a wide range of images. I have heard the term “lovely paper” about this one so many times.

  • 300gsm Acid Free with
  • High D-MAX and wide colour gamut
  • Smooth surface texture
  • ArtSure Approved
  • PH neutral 100% TCF pulp base
Natural Soft Textured Paper (315gsm)

NST has a natural off white finish (CIE 74) with a more structured, soft-textured surface, equivalent to a traditional etching fine art paper. This paper has great colour gamut, accuracy and sharpness. It is acid and lignin free with no OBAs (optical brightening agents) and has a lovely surface texture and impressive print quality giving the artwork expression and soul. I really like the way the ink sits in this texture. Maybe my favourite paper.

  • 315gsm 100% acid free
  • Natural off white with a structured gentle texture
  • High D-MAX and wide colour gamut
  • ArtSure Approved
NST Bright White Paper (315gsm)

Soft textured Bright White (CIE 99.5) 315gsm is a 100% cotton, fine art paper with a gentle structured texture. Similar to our Natural soft texture but with a very white base. Great for artworks and paintings which cover the whole image as it is quite punchy in colour but a little bright where bare paper is showing.

  • 315gsm 100% cotton
  • Bright white base with a gentle texture
  • High D-MAX and wide colour gamut
  • Contains Optical Brightening Agents
Smooth Cotton Signature Paper (300gsm)

Signature Smooth Cotton 300gsm is a 100% cotton, pH neutral, fine art paper with a very smooth surface. The paper’s white base (CIE 94) and state of the art opti-coat coating delivers the highest level of ink load of all our range. Smooth Cotton is ideal for high saturation images. This paper was chosen for it’s amazing rendering of brighter colours. It is acid and lignin free and offers excellent colour gamut and Exceptional d-max.

  • 300gsm 100% cotton, pH neutral
  • White base with an ultra-smooth surface
  • Ideal for high saturation images
  • Opti-coat™ precision coated
  • ArtSure Approved
Platinum Etching Paper (285gsm)

Platinum Etching 285gsm is 100% acid free, fine art paper with a velvety, softly textured surface.  A natural white base (CIE 93) and state of the art ink-receiving layer, delivering a high D-MAX and wide colour gamut.  Platinum Etching is 25% cotton and 75% alpha-cellulose. It has a natural white base ( a touch whiter than Smooth Fine Art but still natural) and is probably my favourite texture in our range. There but subtle.

  • 285gsm 100% acid free
  • White base with a velvety textured surface
  • Made up of 25% cotton and 75% alpha-cellulose
  • High D-MAX and wide colour gamut

Hahnemühle German Etching (350gsm)

Hahnemuhle German Etching 310gsm is a natural white (CIE 91.5) 100% a-cellulose art paper. This heavyweight paper has a distinct textured surface. Not quite as natural as Platinum Etching and stronger. Excellent density and colour gamut with great sharpness and archival qualities. A fairly stiff mould made paper.

  • Natural white, without optical brighteners
  • 310gsm 100% cotton, acid and lignin-free
  • Finely textured surface
  • Artsure Approved
Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper (308gsm)

Hahnemühle Photo Rag is one of the world’s most popular papers and a valued all-rounder for high-quality Fine Art  printing. A natural white (CIE 92.5) 100% cotton art paper, with a soft feel and lightly defined felt structure. This versatile paper produces great prints with brilliant colours and accurate reproduction of detail. Acid free, pH neutral (pH8.3). Very similar to our Smooth Fine Art Paper but a stiffer paper.

  • Natural white with low OBAs
  • 308gsm 100% cotton, acid and lignin-free
  • High D-MAX and wide colour gamut
  • Artsure approved
Hahnemühle Bamboo Paper (290gsm)

Hahnemühle Bamboo is the world’s first FineArt inkjet paper made from 90% bamboo fibres, for a natural look and environmentally friendly paper production. The natural white (CIE 83), warm-toned bamboo paper does not contain optical brighteners, and stands out thanks to its soft, lightly textured felt structure and sensual feel. This is very similar to Platinum etching with it’s soft texture but a more off white colour.

I am looking into the new Hemp and Agave papers also which have more structured texture.

  • 90% bamboo fibres, 10% cotton
  • Natural white
  • Soft, lightly textured felt structure
  • Acid- and lignin-free
  • Acid free, pH neutral (pH8.5)
Platinum Gloss Art Fibre Paper (300gsm)

Platinum Gloss Art Fibre is 100% Alpha-cellulose paper with a lovely soft texture. Its premium high-gloss inkjet coating meets the highest industry standards regarding density, colour gamut, colour graduation and image sharpness. It makes our grade because it produces amazing colour and tonal representation and feels great in the hand. Perfect for exhibition or gallery photography.

  • 300gsm 100% alpha cellulose
  • White with a glossy finish
  • Exceptional dmax up to 2.7
  • ArtSure Approved
