Our Process
The process of making a Giclée print includes the following stages…
1. Digital Imaging
Firstly we need a digital copy of the artwork. We are especially skilled and experienced in the digital capture of artworks and reproducing them accurately. Please use our links to see further details. If the artwork or image was made digitally then this step is complete.
2. Post Production / Colour
All imaging devices have differing colour spaces and characteristics and we can tweak this with sophisticated software to accurately represent the original work. The skill of manipulating and seeing colour all adds up to create the best file and print possible.
3. Giclée / Pigment Printing
An opportunity for you to hard proof and print the digital files to check accuracy and sample our beautiful papers. We can then print as few or as many prints as you need up to 112cm wide.
4. Pick Up / Delivery
Inspect and collect your prints at our Edinburgh studio or we can carefully package and post your prints with insured delivery to any location worldwide.
Colour and Accuracy
Colour control and accuracy is fundamental to our success. As an artist led studio with many years of experience, we are excellent at seeing and working with colour, both from an objective and subjective view, manipulating it and communicating the nuances of this with clients. With our fully colour calibrated workflow, ICC paper profiles and Eizo Colouredge monitors we can deliver beautiful results.
Technology
Including medium format cameras and professional scanners which capture ultra-high resolutions to capture amazing detail in artworks, a high CRI led lighting studio and portable set up which can reliably capture visual colour wavelengths at specific colour temperatures and our printers use 12 colour pigment ink sets to give the widest colour gamuts available with exceptional resolution and archival qualities.
Care and Experience
There are times when more advice and care can be valuable. We are happy to spend this extra care and time to ensure your prints are as good as they can be. We know we are making our work life harder by suggesting things but we appreciate ( in many cases ) that a printed work is a reflection of your brand as an artist. We believe it is worth making this as good as possible.
Environment
We try to lower our environmental impact where we can. Our alpha cellulose papers come from a mill that has a tree replanting scheme and our cotton paper sources also have offsetting measures in place. “Jacksons Art” has an article on cotton art paper making which alleviates other concerns. Prints are packaged with recycled board in sugar cane by product, carbon neutral and biodegradeable bags.
